About Dr. John Kownacki

John J. Kownacki, M.D., is a physician devoted to eye surgery, facial aesthetics, Laser Vision Correction and general eye care. He has years of experience and is an expert in the use of new and exciting techniques and equipment in the field of Eye Surgery including the latest in LASIK and glaucoma lasers. He is also proficient in the latest in cataract surgery including the newest lenses that treat astigmatism and may give you freedom for near AND distance vision without glasses. Dr. Kownacki is also the Medical Director and Chief Surgeon for the LASIK Vision Institute in San Diego and Phoenix, Arizona.

Early Life & Education

Dr. Kownacki grew up in San Diego and went to college at the University of San Diego and received his M.D. degree and performed his ophthalmology residency at St. Louis University in Missouri. He is Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology with specialty in refractive surgery and was the Chief Ophthalmologist for the Air Force at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ. He has performed studies and is a published author in the field of refractive surgery and practices the latest techniques using the most up to date equipment.

Certifications

He was certified on the first excimer laser approved in the U.S. in 1995 for laser correction and is now certified on the latest wavefront excimer lasers and has performed more than 65,000 LASIK procedures. He was the first surgeon in San Diego to use the new mixed astigmatism treatment on the Visx Laser and the first surgeon in California to perform the newest FDA approved Custom Ablation treatment.
